- Interesting you mention redoing it yourself—I get the appeal but sometimes wonder if we're too quick to dismiss the pros.
- I've tackled a bunch of DIY insulation jobs, and while rewarding, I realized later some things looked fine but weren't truly optimal.
- Makes me curious—could our DIY confidence occasionally blind us to subtle issues we'd spot instantly if someone else did it?
- Not knocking your approach, just something I've been pondering after finding my own mistakes down the line...

Solid point. I've caught myself overlooking small details because I was too close to the project. DIY is great for learning and saving cash, but there's something to be said for an outside eye—especially with energy efficiency stuff, where tiny oversights can really add up. Still, don't beat yourself up too much; spotting your own mistakes later means you're already ahead of most.

Good point about DIY blind spots. I've installed my own windows before and thought everything looked perfect—until winter hit and I noticed drafts in spots I swore I'd sealed tight. Ended up having a pro friend check it out, and he immediately spotted gaps I'd overlooked. Sometimes you're just too familiar with your own work to see the little stuff clearly...lesson learned for next time.

Fair point, but familiarity isn't always the issue. Even pros can overlook details—had a contractor miss insulation gaps in my attic once. It's more about thoroughness and double-checking than DIY vs pro, imo.

Yeah, that's true. Ever notice how easy it is to spot mistakes in someone else's work, but your own stuff just blends together after a while? I think it's less about skill level and more about perspective. When you're staring at the same thing for hours, your brain just fills in the blanks. Had a similar thing happen when painting my living room—I swore it looked perfect until my friend pointed out a huge patch I'd missed behind the bookshelf. Felt pretty dumb, but hey, it happens. Guess that's why fresh eyes always help, huh?

Exactly this. Even with years of experience, I've caught myself missing small details after long days. It's why I always step away for a bit or have someone else double-check—fresh eyes really do make a difference.

Couldn't agree more. I've found that even a short coffee break or switching tasks briefly helps reset my attention. Especially with home projects—missing something small like caulking or alignment can mean headaches down the road... learned that the hard way myself.

Yep, exactly why I always do a quick walkthrough after installers finish up. Had Renewal by Andersen put in last year and caught a minor alignment issue on one window early—saved me from dealing with drafts later. Worth the extra 10 minutes to double-check their work yourself... installers are good, but nobody's perfect.

Good call on the walkthrough—saved me a couple times too. Quick tip from experience:

- Check windows at different times of day (morning/evening) for alignment and ease of opening.
- Look closely at corners and edges for missed caulking spots.
- Keep an eye out after heavy rain...sometimes leaks don't show up right away.

Enjoy the new windows, they're worth it.

Good tips there, especially about checking after heavy rain. I learned that one the hard way...thought everything was perfect until a big storm rolled through a month later and suddenly had a small puddle on the sill. Turned out it was just a tiny missed spot with the caulking, easy enough fix but definitely something to watch for.

Another thing I'd add—don't forget to test your screens thoroughly. I overlooked that at first, and later found one screen wasn't sitting flush. Easy to miss during the initial excitement of new windows. Also, if you have sliding windows, keep an eye on the tracks. They can collect dirt faster than you'd think, and a quick wipe-down every now and then keeps them sliding smoothly.

Overall though, Renewal windows were one of the best upgrades we've done. Quieter house, lower energy bills, and honestly, they just look great. Hope you enjoy yours as much as we have.
